Well, after director, David Ayer (SUICIDE SQUAD), recently tweeted a photo of Jared Leto as the Joker, we have “Release the Ayer Cut” trending again. Those of you who don’t know, after the success of the “Snyder Cut” of THE JUSTICE LEAGUE, the director had shared over social media how the theatrical release over SUICIDE SQUAD (not to be confused with the more recent, THE SUICIDE SQUAD) was a mere shadow of his original vision & how his initial cut was a more engaging story.
It’s clear that director is still bitter about the experience on the project with the tweet in question stating, Jared killed it But no one knows.
Now the question here is do we really need or want a director’s cut of this movie? I mean, Ayer’s cut very well be a better movie than what was released, but my memory of this movie featured a one-dimensional villain, generic henchmen, and as for the Joker himself, seemed like an afterthought and the idea building that character up in some special release seems like it would compete with the main villain in the movie.
So unless his cut changes that, do we really need his cut of the movie?
If I were in his shoes, I would move on and be content in that I introduced a lasting Joker, and the initial version of a live-action Harley Quinn that fans love. But that’s just me.
As for that Joker tweet in question? Check it out below.
