Well, friends, looks like a season 2 for HAWKEYE isn’t happening. Personally, really bummed about this. I mean, for all intents and purposes, sounded like Marvel wanted a season 2, albeit being heartless going about it. If you remember early last year, Jeremy Renner turned down Marvel’s offer for a season 2 because it was HALF his salary for season 1. All this after his horrific accident with the slow plow. I mean, kinda dick move timing wise on Marvel’s part.
But in the time since, sounded like all parties involved were negotiating.
The first season of HAWKEYE was definitely a treat. The odd couple/buddy copy dynamic between Clint & Kate, to the best ‘frenimies’ between Yelena and Kate, just so much fun, and the characters were so rich… just a treat.
No heavy explanations have been given for its cancellation. The only thing cited was from producer, Andrew Guest, “…the timing didn’t work out…”. As to what that’s referring to, be it other projects, personal lives, who knows.
But it’s definitely going to be a loss in the MCU lineup. And arguably a continuing trend for the MCU on the small screen.
That trend? Solid Marvel series on Disney+ getting cancelled, one after the other. First MS. MARVEL, then MOON KNIGHT, now HAWKEYE. And I’m sure there are fans out there who would disagree with me on these series being “solid” and one of them being cancelled because the lead declared not to work with Disney again since it submitted to the Trump Administration…
Yeah. I mean, I’d be open to it, although right now I’m not so open to working with Disney. But if they can kinda figure it out and, you know, not succumb to fascism, that would be great… if that happens, then yeah, I’d be open to having a conversation about a galaxy far away. Or any number of other things.
Either way though we’re losing another solid piece from Marvel. But with all the losses, looks like we got another great project on the horizon with WONDER MAN.
But not to get too off track, HAWKEYE will definitely be missed. And it definitely looks like Clint’s solo adventure is coming to a close.
