You know, there was definitely a time I would’ve been so excited by the news of a new project from David Benioff and D.B. Weiss… sadly, that time has long since passed. But the duo is still in the news. Building on their development deal with Netflix, looks like the first project for that relationship has been announced.
THE THREE-BODY PROBLEM, a Hugo-winning science fiction story from author Liu Cixin.
If you’re not familiar with THE THREE-BODY PROBLEM, no worries, you’re definitely not alone. As mentioned above, it’s a science fiction story from Chinese author, Liu Cixin. Specifically a story that spans three novels: THE THREE-BODY PROBLEM, THE DARK FOREST, and DEATH’S END.
The overview for the books breakdown below:
Set against the backdrop of China’s Cultural Revolution, a secret military project sends signals into space to establish contact with aliens. An alien civilization on the brink of destruction captures the signal and plans to invade Earth. Meanwhile, on Earth, different camps start forming, planning to either welcome the superior beings and help them take over a world seen as corrupt, or to fight against the invasion.
That was the synopsis for the first book. And on that alone, I am definitely on-board with this news.
As for David Benioff and D.B. Weiss spearheading this? Well, loved what they did with GAME OF THRONES until they ran out of material. So, unlike George R.R. Martin, looks like this book series has been completed and translated. As long as the duo doesn’t try and make up anything new, hopefully we’ll be good.
Personally, based on the premise of the books, I think I am going to be looking forward to this. Though no release date has been set, I love me some sci-fi, and will always look forward to something with the remote possibility of being good. And in this case, something that could last multiple seasons.
