It’s no secret TRON: ARES failed at the box office. I personally missed it in theatres. Don’t get me wrong, despite its preproduction issues, I was excited for it’s release. I mean I grew up with the original TRON in the ‘80s, and I super enjoyed TRON: LEGACY. Though I know the latter had a mixed reception when it opened, but I still dug it.
As for TRON: ARES, well, I’m sure I’m not the only one these days, with the rising prices of the theatre going experience, more-and-more picky about what we will go to theatres for. And while the trailers grabbed me. The crossover from the Grid, to the visuals, the soundtrack, I was in. But then, there was the presentation of, what looked like, a generic corporate warmonger, and of course, Jared Leto’s casting.
Leto’s casting was no surprise. That was well known news before the first trailer’s release. But I was surprised how much of a turnoff it was for me in regards to getting to the theatre. His casting by no means diminished my desire to see the movie, but found myself thinking, “…maybe I’ll wait till it hits Disney+.”
And it sounds like that’s what Disney is planning on.
With just over a month since its premiere in theatres, Home Video announcements have been made for ARES, and it sounds like it will be released on Digital on December 2nd and on Blu-Ray/DVD on January 6th.
No word yet on a Disney+ release. But if past patterns are any example, it’ll be after the Blu-Ray release.
I don’t know about you, but we’ll see if my curiosity gets the better of me next week. Or if I can hold out till Disney+.
Have you seen TRON: ARES? Going to check it out on streaming? Let us know!
