That’s right kids, according to SYFY Wire, sounds like Netflix’s next big series is going to be an adaptation of the hit Capcom game, the series that arguably created the “survival horror” genre, RESIDENT EVIL.
Though, it’s definitely interesting that this is being called an “adaptation”, as it sounds like this show, much like the movies, won’t actually be adapting any of the games, but more creating something inspired by it. Not that I’m complaining, just a random thing.
But if you’re not familiar with the games, surely you’ve seen, or heard of the movies starring Milla Jovovich. But it’s interesting, after the last movie, dubbed, “The Final Chapter”, it was said that the movie franchise would continue. But sounds like that may no longer be the case.
As for the show itself? Sounds like it’ll take place over 2 timelines. Or, more, 2 moments in time. “Timelines” make it sound like time travel is involved. But that’s not the case. But the show will focus on a Jade and Billie Wesker (yes, THAT Wesker), as they “begrudgingly” move to Racoon City. Soon they discover that their father is keeping secrets that could destroy the world.
As the show moves onward, there will be moments set 10 years into future where less than 15 million humans are left in the world. The rest being mutations of the T-Virus. In this world, Jade is 30-years-old trying to make her way.
I’m personally cautiously optimistic about this show. What has me worried is that the show is starting with Jade and Billie as kids, as they “begrudgingly” move to Racoon City. It’s the last bit that has me thinking about shows like LOCKE & KEY, a show I couldn’t finish because I thought the kids were just colossal, selfish brats. I just couldn’t take it anymore.
And the way some of this show is being described, might be more of the same. I hope I’m wrong. But like I said, cautiously optimistic.
The show is being brought to us by SUPERNATURAL producer, Andrew Dabb, who will serve as writer, showrunner and executive producer. Along for the ride will be Bronwen Hughes (THE WALKING DEAD, AWAY), who will serve as director and executive producer for the first two episodes.
The Constantin Films (which produced the movies) is producing the show, no word if Milla Jovovich will cameo, or even if this series will be part of this world. Additionally, no word if any of the game’s characters will be part of the show as well.
But the first season will consist of 8, 1-hour episodes. No premiere date is set, but definitely will let you know when it does.
In the meantime, check out the tease from Netflix below!
When the Wesker kids move to New Raccoon City, the secrets they uncover might just be the end of everything. Resident…
