I miss Michael Crichton dearly. And I have to say my favorite novel of his without a doubt has been SPHERE. But sounds like the book being developed into a TV show for HBO!
And I couldn’t be more excited.
But if you’re not familiar with the book, or the subsequent movie, the basic premise is that the government discovers what they feel to be a UFO at the ocean’s floor. From there a team of scientists are called in, following a response report drafted by one of the team.
As they get into the exploration, a whole new mystery begins to unfold. And yes, it involves a sphere. But I won’t get too into too far beyond that, just in case you haven’t read it (but should, ’cause it’s awesome).
When the movie came out in 1998, I was so excited, sadly the movie didn’t measure up to the novel like other adaptations of Crichton’s work. I mean, it was definitely better than CONGO, but not by much. I have to say with all the sci-fi steeped in the novel, it can definitely be served from the serialization of the TV show.
The best part of all of this? The show is being developed by team members from the WESTWORLD crew, specifically executive producer & writer, Denise Thé. Not only that, but Jonathan Nolan & Lisa Joy are also on-board.
And to sweeten this pot even more, sounds like Robert Downey Jr. & Susan Downey will be on the producing team as well.
Not much news beyond that, but I can’t wait for this to hit!
I’ll definitely keep you updated as news develops.
