So, as I watch trailers for the upcoming STAR TREK BEYOND, I have to say I REALLY hate it when I feel like I just saw the movie in the trailer. Now, as I write this, let me just say I don’t consider myself some kind of deep, intellectual person that can spot patterns in the chaos, and things of the like.
That said, much like BATMAN V SUPERMAN, I kind of feel like I’ve seen BEYOND in the trailers.
WARNING: Before continuing, you’re proceeding knowing you risk having an idea of the movie planted in your brain dome! PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK!
Still here? EXCELLENT!
So where was I? That’s right, movies in trailers! See, too often like I’ve seen the movie in trailers, and really leaves me with little to no motivation to see the movie. I used the upcoming sequel as an example. Let me see if I can break it down. But before that, a trailer for reference:
So what did we get out of this?
- Like the previous 2 installments of this reboot, a Kirk with an issue to overcome.
- A destroyed Enterprise.
- A shot of, what looks to be, an NX Class Federation Starship (Remember the ENTERPRISE TV show? The one with the cheesy-ass ballad as the opening theme.)
- Battle on an alien planet.
- Battle on Earth.
- Bones and Kirk looking up, and Bones stating, “You really want to go back out there.”
So here’s where I’m thinking this movie is gonna go:
The Enterprise is currently in the middle of it’s 5 year mission, and Kirk is lost as far as far as “who” he is in the universe. They’re attacked by the villain, played by Idris Elba. The Enterprise is destroyed, and the surviving crew is enslaved in some kind of internment camp.
Villain undoubtedly makes a claim to destroy Earth, or at least the Federation.
On the planet, they find an NX Class Starship, and the crew goes after Idris.
Battle on Earth ensues.
Good guys win.
Around the end, Bones and Kirk are looking up at a new Enterprise, and Bones asks, “So you really want to go back out there…”
And of course, like to previous 2 installments of the reboot, Kirk finds his reason for being somewhere in there, and some meaning to be human too…
So yea, that’s pretty much how I see this thing playing out. I hope I’m wrong. But of course, wrong or right, I’ll still be there to see the movie. But if I’m right? SERIOUSLY HOLLYWOOD, stop giving us the movie in the trailers!!!
