…and did I mention it’s gonna star John Boyega?!
That’s right Boys and Girls, the on again, off again, and now back on again big robot, monster bashing movie is back on track!
According to Variety, the sequel will open on February 23, 2018.
Sure, it’s over a year out before we see this. But I couldn’t be more excited! Even though Guillermo del Toro is a fab-favorite director, PACIFIC RIM was met with a less than positive response domestically. Right down to people telling me is was “awful”, “a piece of shit”, and other colorful criticisms.
Personally, I LOVED IT! I thought it was an immensely fun, action-packed, popcorn movie! I mean, big robots fighting big monsters, what more do you want? I joked with my friends, “THAT is what POWER RANGERS looked like in my brain as a kid!”
And it was so true! Just so much “turn your brain off, and enjoy the ride” fun!
Now admittingly when a sequel was first announced, I was a bit skeptical. I mean, where could they go? They closed the bridge! Definitely couldn’t help but think they’d recycle the plot over again from the first movie… but fingers-crossed it’ll be something new!
Now, as I mentioned above, the sequel will star everyone’s favorite First Order Stormtrooper, John Boyega. According to Variety, he’ll play the son of Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba). The sequel will be produced by Thomas Tull, Guillermo del Toro, Mary Parent, and Boyega and his manager.
The movie itself will be directed by Steven S. DeKnight (DAREDEVIL, the SWEET Netflix series, not the shitbox movie).
