So I have to say, despite it’s faults, I really enjoyed The Amazing Spider-Man. So it goes without saying, I’ve been definitely looking forward to the sequel. But as more and more news came out about The Amazing Spider-Man 2… well, I just got more and more worried.
Where am I going with this? Well, there’s a concept my friends and I like to call, The Spider-man 3 Syndrome.
Basically referencing the 3rd installment of the Sam Raimi movies, and the argument being there was just too much going on. You had Venom, Sandman, Harry Osborn, and relationship conflicts… it was just too much, there was no focus to the story.
And as more news was released about The Amazing Spider-Man 2, definitely became worried that it would befall the same fate. I mean, you have The Rhino, Electro, and Harry Osborn… too much. Based on the TV spots and trailers, you definitely get an idea of what the throughline for the movie is. But with so many villains, regardless of how the filmmakers spin it, they would definitely just become distractions.
Well, the movie opens this weekend. And early reviews and fan response has not been great. Like this one tweet…
Look out! Here comes the SpiderMEH.

Even io9.com posted a fairly negative review.
Definitely not looking good. But haven’t seen it yet, so I can’t say firsthand. But plan on seeing it this weekend, so I’ll let you guys know.
But if you see it before me? I guess, I just wanted to let you guys know you probably shouldn’t get your hopes up. -sigh
