Horror, demonic possession, sci-fi AND Neill Blomkamp? SIGN ME UP! Out of nowhere we got a trailer for his next movie, DEMONIC, what looks to be a sci-fi/horror/thriller, and I have to say I’m intrigued! Check out the trailer below!
From the director of DISTRICT 9 and ELYSIUM, a young woman unleashes terrifying demons when supernatural forces at the root of a decades old rift between mother and daughter are revealed.
And when I say this came out of nowhere, I definitely mean that. According to Alex Billington of FirstShowing.net, Blomkamp (DISTRICT 9, ELYSIUM) took friends and a small crew into the Canadian forests last year to make this. Through the trailer you might feel like you see some familiar horror and sci-fi tropes, but I feel like Blomkamp is definitely expanding upon that with the idea that the “simulation” is an actual separate reality of sorts and not merely a virtual one, where things might cross the threshold. In this case the demon hinted at.
And even then, the short mention of the Vatican “Black-Ops” unit, as well as how all of this may merge together. Definitely intrigued. Of course I wouldn’t expect anything less from Blomkamp. But without a doubt intrigued.
DEMONIC stars Carly Pope, Terry Chen, Nathalie Boltt, Chris William Martin, and Michael Rogers. This is also set to come out in theatres on August 20th, then on VOD on August 27th.
