Personally I never bought into MANIFEST or tuned in when it premiered. It’s initial marketing, all I could think was that it was some kind of LOST knock-off and wasn’t interested. But in the years since it’s premiere, it’s developed a loyal fanbase, and undoubtedly that same fanbase heart broke when NBC cancelled the show after show’s third season. Reportedly it was cancelled in favor to make room for another Dick Wolf LAW & ORDER/CHICAGO universe spin-off of somesort… ironically, a show the network ended up passing on as well.
BUT nevermind all that. Not unlike LUCIFER, it’s Netflix to the rescue! The streaming giant has picked up the show for a fourth and final season. And it’s a MAMMOTH season at that, clocking in at 20 episodes. In an age where seasons are clocking in at 13 episodes, and on Netflix, anywhere between 8-10, 20 is HUGE!
If you’re not familiar with the show, it follows a group of passengers on a flight from Jamaica to New York. Along the way, they hit some major turbulence. But the mystery hits when they land and it’s 5 and half years later since take off. But not only that, they landed with the ability to see moments of events to come.
The show’s creator, Jeff Rake, had this to say about the news:
Jeff Rake
What started years ago as a flight of fancy deep in my imagination has evolved into the jet engine journey of a lifetime. Never in my wildest dreams could I have envisioned the worldwide outpouring of love and support for this story, its characters, and the team who work so hard to bring it all to life. That we will be able to reward the fans with the ending they deserve moves me to no end. On behalf of the cast, the crew, the writers, directors, and producers, thank you to Netflix, to Warner Bros., and of course to the fans. You did this…
No further details seem to be available about the upcoming season. But the first 3 seasons are currently streaming on Netflix. And looks like I need to be adding it to my queue! Haha.
