Seemingly out of nowhere, Focus Pictures has dropped a trailer for a film remembering Anthony Bourdain, and not gonna lie, a lot feels with this one. Check out the trailer below.
It’s not where you go. It’s what you leave behind . . . Chef, writer, adventurer, provocateur: Anthony Bourdain lived his life unabashedly. Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain is an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at how an anonymous chef became a world-renowned cultural icon. From Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville (20 Feet From Stardom, Won’t You Be My Neighbor?), this unflinching look at Bourdain reverberates with his presence, in his own voice and in the way he indelibly impacted the world around him.
I never had the chance to meet the man, but his influence on our world is definitely unmistakable. And his thirst for knowledge and experience is without a doubt inspiring. As many of you know, Anthony Bourdain took his own life in 2018, and in the trailer you feel like you get a sense of the sadness or emptiness he may have felt in his life. But with the snippets of people who knew him best talk of him, celebrating this man’s life, and the impact he had, is a beautiful thing. Definitely looking forward to this, and definitely will have a box of tissues on-hand.
Though the HBO Max logo was in the trailer, no word as to whether it’ll be a same-day release with theaters. But ROADRUNNER hits theaters on July 16th.
