That’s right Boys and Girls, despite it’s renewal order for a season 2, STUMPTOWN has been canceled. And I’m sure you can guess, the reasoning for this is due to COVID-19, and the resulting production delays.
Being reported by Variety, it sounds like because of the production delays, and ABC’s needs for the Fall season, the decision was made to cancel.
To say I’m heartbroken is an understatement. STUMPTOWN was by far my favorite show last Fall. And clearly the ratings and/or reception was there for ABC to order a renewal… so definitely heartbreaking we won’t be returning to Portland for some PI goodness.
To go with the heartbreak, definitely disappointed in ABC. I’ll be the first to concede I know little to nothing about the business side of television. But even with the pandemic delay, the network made a commitment of renewal. And not honoring that is definitely disappointing. I mean, if there’s programming needs for the Fall? Just show reruns of DANCING WITH THE STARS, people seem to eat that shit up.
Though despite the cancellation, I only hope there’s some “cancel after renewal” clause/fee in the contract with the show that ABC will payout so the cast and crew will receive some kind of income during this pandemic.
But again, definitely heartbroken I won’t see this cast, in this world, on my screen again. Though, still not losing hope. According to Variety, ABC Signature will be shopping the series to other outlets.
So here’s hoping it’ll find a home. In the meantime, I guess I’ll be ordering season 1 & the comic it was based on to get me through.
