One thing I definitely missed from the DC FanDome was the news that the next DC animated movie will be, BATMAN: THE LONG HALLOWEEN.
Personally I couldn’t be more excited about this. This was by far one of my favorite Batman stories from the comics. Not only that, if memory serves, this was the first collaboration between Jeph Loeb & Tim Sale. Which ultimately led to additional Batman stories, and even their “color” or “shade” stories over at Marvel.
So definitely excited about this one.
The news comes from MovieWeb, and according to them, it sounds like this will be broken up into 2 parts. The first part to hit Summer next year, and the second in the Fall.
If you’re not familiar with THE LONG HALLOWEEN, here’s a summary:
Christmas. St. Patrick’s Day. Easter. As the calendar’s days stack up, so do the bodies littered in the streets of Gotham City. A murderer is loose, killing only on holidays. The only man that can stop this fiend? The Dark Knight. In a mystery taking place during Batman’s early days of crime fighting, Batman: The Long Halloween is one of the greatest Dark Knight stories ever told.
Working with District Attorney Harvey Dent and Lieutenant James Gordon, Batman races against the calendar as he tries to discover who Holiday is before he claims his next victim each month. A mystery that has the reader continually guessing the identity of the killer, this story also ties into the events that transform Harvey Dent into Batman’s deadly enemy, Two-Face.
My only worry about all of this is that I remember reading that Andrea Romano is no longer with DC/WB. If you don’t know she was the voice director on many of the first DC Animated movies, and in my opinion, one of the driving reasons for their success.
Though if she is indeed gone, it’ll be curious to see how this plays out.
