But don’t get too excited kids, this latest adaptation from the comic world is coming from MAGIC MIKE star, Channing Tatum.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen Tatum in roles that I’ve enjoyed, but for THE MAXX, makes me a little scared. But it’s no secret that Tatum had been trying to get an X-MEN spin-off movie off the ground based on the cajun mutant, Gambit. A movie in which he would’ve starred, and possibility have directed. But, like so many other initiatives, this whole endeavor fell apart with Disney’s acquisition of FOX.
But clearly that setback isn’t keeping the star down, as it looks like he’s set his sights on the Outback hero!
Now if you’re unfamiliar with THE MAXX, it’s the brainchild of comic book creator, Sam Keith (THE SANDMAN). It debut in 1993 under the Image Comics banner. In the comic, it places the hero both in the real world and the alternate reality the Outback. In the real world, he is a vagrant, homeless man living in a box, but when he enters the Outback, he is the powerful protector of the Jungle Queen. Back in the real world, the Jungle Queen is Julie Winters, a freelance social worker who often supports the man and bails him out of jail without knowing the existence of the Outback and its potential dangers on the real world.
The comic developed a pretty solid following, but 2 years later it was adapted into a 13-episode animated series that aired on MTV… you know, back when MTV aired music videos. But the animation definitely just deepend it’s cult following.
As for the movie? Obviously this isn’t even in production yet. But it’s easy to assume that Channing Tatum will be in the title role. Sounds like he’ll also be producing under his Free Association banner, and also bringing along as producers: Reid Carolin, Peter Kiernan, also Roy Lee from Vertigo Entertainment.
As soon as more information breaks, I’ll definitely let you know! In the meantime, what do you think about this news? Drop your thoughts on the Fuzzybug Facebook Page!
