This is less about Konami, but more about friendship. The internet has been a little abuzz about fan-favorite director, Guillermo del Toro, dropping the popular phrase, “Fuck Konami!”
Now I should probably mention I didn’t know, “Fuck Konami”, was a popular phrase. But after a little poking around, looks like it’s a popular phrase to use against the publisher. BUT why did del Toro drop it?
Well, in a word, Kojima. Hideo Kojima.
But I mentioned friendship. Well, I think it goes without saying that del Toro and Kojima have shared a strong friendship over the years. Especially after Kojima’s relationship with Konami (hence the the “fuck”). Things like during MGS V’s development, he was isolated from the rest of his team. Also the publisher preventing the video game maven from accepting an award from The Game Awards last year. And probably most notably the cancelling of the game PH, in which he collaborated with del Toro on, and whose demo was widely loved. All resulting in Kojima’s relationship with Konami ending.
But this year’s Game Awards were last night, and as Hideo Kojima took to the stage to accept an award, Guillermo del Toro took to Twitter to support his friend…

Konami cancelling SH after PT is one of the most moronic things I’ve ever witnessed.

All of it ending with Hideo Kojima giving a heartfelt and adorable shoutout to his friend for his support.

All I gotta say is we all should be so lucky to have that kind of support in our lives.
UPDATE: With mention of The Game Awards, check out a quick reveal of Kojima’s next game here.
