Outside of getting a Switch Lite during the pandemic, yes, to play ANIMAL CROSSING: NEW HORIZONS with friends, been out of gaming for a little bit. These days, outside of current gen XBOX and Playstation being impossible to find, the majority of my friends are all into PC gaming. And with that, I’m sure a lot of you know, building a PC gaming rig is by no means a cheap endeavor.
But looks like that might be changing.
Introducing Valve’s Steam Deck, a sexy little PC gaming handheld and I think I’m love. First thing you’ll probably notice is that it has a similar form factor to the Nintendo Switch, which I’m totally down with. I think Nintendo hit it right with that console.
See Sony, you CAN have a handheld with analog sticks!
But under the hood, it reportedly has all the functionality of a full gaming PC, features a version of Valve’s StreamOS, and a console type interface to access & manage your Steam store and library.
In terms of tech specs, here’s a rundown:
- 7-inch, 1280×800 resolution, 60hz LCD screen
- Custom AMD APU featuring a 4-core, 8-thread CPU paired with 8 RDNA 2 compute units for the GPU
- 16 GBs of LPDDR5 RAM
And to top it all off, it’ll be Bluetooth enabled so you can connect all your accessories, even an external display for your gaming experience.
The Steam Deck will come in 3 models, starting at $399. Though it doesn’t sound like it has a firm release date, sounds like it’ll hit sometime this year in 2021.
