So the trailer for the next STAR TREK movie, STAR TREK BEYOND, has long since been released. But recently, I had a random thought…
Now, even though I enjoyed STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS, I think we can all agree it had quite a number of faults. Even J.J. Abrams admitted to that. But one of my biggest criticisms of INTO DARKNESS? It was the second movie of the reboot, and it featured Kahn. And THE WRATH OF KAHN was the second movie of the original films. So really, it kind of felt like a remake than an original movie. And that kind of bummed me out a little.
That, and the Klingons looked like the aliens from ENEMY MINE. Haha.
But where am I going with this? Well, despite my reservations about Justin Lin as the director… Don’t get me wrong, the man is great at action, but haven’t seen much from him in terms of character development… but I hope he proves me wrong. BUT despite Lin as the director, one of the big things we see in the BEYOND trailer, the Enterprise is destroyed.
Now, what happened in STAR TREK 3: THE SEARCH FOR SPOCK? Yup. The Enterprise was destroyed. And even more than that, there’s a part in the trailer where Bones and Spock are on a planet, we can only assume post destruction of the Enterprise, and Spock is beamed away… so will they end up searching for Spock too?
I swear to whatever higher power you believe in, if this ends up being a remake of THE SEARCH FOR SPOCK, I’m gonna be so disappointed.
AND if the inevitable 4th film features whales as the MacGuffin… I may give up this franchise altogether, haha.
But those of you who haven’t seen the trailer, check it out below.
STAR TREK BEYOND opens July 22, 2016.
