So THE WIL WHEATON PROJECT premiered on \u00a0SyFy last night… and it was just, okay. I mean, I liked the format. Though itself, nothing new. A format we’ve seen for years on E! and, shall it rest in peace, G4. Comedic commentary on events in particular niche over the last week, usually set against a greenscreened set.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

But here’s the thing. Everything evolves. And with this format. The comedic commentary. The show I couldn’t help but think about was LAST WEEK TONIGHT WITH JOHN OLIVER on HBO. And with Wil’s show, I was kind of hoping for the same, just focused on geeky goodness.<\/p>\n

Sadly, it just wasn’t there for me.<\/p>\n

Don’t get me wrong, Wheaton is a strong, engaging personality in front of the camera… but the jokes were just lame. There were a few gems, but overall a little lame. And I think the era of greensets are behind us. I mean, come on SyFy, couldn’t build Wil a set? Rather we get a cheesy greenscreened job, with a CG fill-in set that screams early ’90s\/MYST era CGI.<\/p>\n

Writing. Production values. Just wasn’t there for me.<\/p>\n
