That\u2019s right boys and girls, news broke that the perceived MCU underdog & AWESOME HIT, SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS has been greenlit for a sequel. Not only that, the original director and co-writer, Destin Daniel Creton<\/a>, is set to return. And to add to the glory of this news, Gizmodo is reporting that with Creton\u2019s return also is coming with signing a multi-year deal with Marvel Studios and Hulu\u2019s Onyx Collective to create original programming for Disney+ and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement to Deadline<\/a>, Marvel Studios president, Kevin Feige, had this to say about the relationship, \u201cDestin is an amazing collaborator\u00a0who brought a unique perspective and skill to\u00a0Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings<\/em>. We had a fantastic time working together on the film and he has so many intriguing ideas for stories to bring to life on Disney+, so we\u2019re thrilled to expand our relationship with him and can\u2019t wait to get started.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for Creton? Here\u2019s what he had to say about this announcement, \u201cWorking on Shang-Chi<\/em> with Kevin and the Marvel Studios team was one of the highlights of my life, and I couldn\u2019t be more excited about Tara [Duncan, President, Freeform & Onyx Collective] vision for Onyx Collective. I can\u2019t wait to explore new stories and build new worlds with this community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Personally, I can\u2019t wait to see more from this director, not only the sequel to SHANG-CHI, but everything else yet to come. Even as a person of color, even though I always believe in representation and inclusion, there was never a moment that resonated with me, or something that I understood at a personal level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But I had that moment with SHANG-CHI. Seeing people in my community on such a large stage, and with plans for longevity, meant so much. And I can\u2019t wait for more. Even moreso with word that Creton\u2019s next project, one that\u2019s already in production for Disney+. The project in question is an adaptation of AMERICAN BORN CHINESE<\/a>, a 2006 comic written and illustrated by Gene Luen Yang. The comic follows a teenager that becomes involved in a battle of Chinese mythological gods and sounds like Creton will direct and executive produce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Knowing Creton\u2019s talent and having more representation, I can\u2019t wait to see this and everything else to come. I think Deadline said it best when they wrote that he would be developing stories \u201cthat highlight the experiences of communities that have traditionally been overlooked by pop culture\u201d, and personally I\u2019m here for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
