That\u2019s right friends, THE BLACKLIST<\/a> star, Megan Boone<\/a> is leaving the show after season 8. Boone has played Agent Keene since the first episode, but Variety is reporting she\u2019ll be leaving the show series after this season comes to an end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Variety<\/a>, NBC has declined to comment on her departure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Personally, this news has me worried about the future of the show. With it, I can\u2019t help but think about CASTLE<\/a> as that show was coming to an end. If you don\u2019t know, or remember, before ABC dropped the hammer on the Nathan Fillion<\/a> led show & there was hope for a renewal, the powers that be decided not to renew co-star Stana Katic\u2019<\/a>s contract.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was a lot of speculation as to why, fights on set and things of the like. But for the show\u2019s narrative, it was troubling. Katic played Kate Beckett, a character who played the foil to Nathan Fillion\u2019s Richard Castle since the start of the show. Basically, the core of the show. Essentially that \u201cMulder & Scully\u201d dynamic, it doesn\u2019t work without one or the other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ultimately CASTLE was cancelled, and the showrunners addressed the assumed cliffhanger with a half-assed, tacked on epilogue to give fans closure to the show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But with THE BLACKLIST, as fans of the show know, it\u2019s been renewed for a season 9. That said, this dynamic mentioned is true for this show too. Reddington came into Keene\u2019s (Boone) life at the FBI for mysterious, unknown reasons. And with that mystery, that relationship became the core of the show, generating questions, season after season, as to what it\u2019s all about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With Boone leaving the show, her character being Reddington\u2019s foil, it begs the question how the show may move forward with its core no longer intact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Though I am cautiously optimistic about the upcoming 9th<\/sup> season. Even though Boone\u2019s character has been a constant element this season, the character herself has barely been in the season. It\u2019s almost as if this season has been an experiment to see if the show could work without Boone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the, as of this writing, penultimate episode having aired last night, there\u2019s hope for some closure and proper send off for Boone\u2019s character, Agent Elizabeth Keene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

THE BLACKLIST season finale airs on NBC<\/a> on June 23rd<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
