That\u2019s right friends, doesn\u2019t look like we\u2019ll be getting any more JUPITER\u2019S LEGACY. It\u2019s weird, articles have been framing this as the show not being cancelled, but more Netflix releasing the cast from their contracts. But it\u2019s easy to see the writing on the wall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

JUPITER\u2019S LEGACY is done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Honestly, I\u2019m not surprised by this news. As a big a fan I am of Mark Millar\u2019s creator owned comics, as well as stoked about the news back in 2017 when Netflix acquired his company, Millarworld, yea, not surprised by this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To continue that enthusiasm going, I was stoked for JUPITER\u2019S LEGACY to happen, the first adaptation from Millarworld since the acquisition. Sadly, the show was a hot mess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The show was all over the place, and just didn\u2019t know what story it wanted to tell. Initially marketed as the pressures of carrying on the legacy of a superheroes from one generation to the next, there were so many other competing storylines with that main through line. From the origins to the powers, internal struggles, side plots that went nowhere, to establishing the threat of the antagonist, let alone to effectively foreshadowing who that may be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You take all of that, through it into a blender, and it being presented as non-linear storytelling. Which is by no means a bad thing. Tons of movies and shows opted for non-linear storytelling format, but JUPITER\u2019S LEGACY failed by a huge margin when compared to those that came before it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So as disappointing as it is, this being the first adaptation from Millarworld, definitely not surprising.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But those of you who were a fan of the world JUPITER\u2019S LEGACY presented, don\u2019t fret, there is some good news to go with all of this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Netflix has ordered SUPERCROOKS to series. The show itself will be set in the same universe as JUPITER\u2019S LEGACY. So, we might see those characters return in some capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for SUPERCROOKS itself? Well, sounds like it\u2019ll be like JUPITER\u2019S LEGACY, just with villains. Here\u2019s what Mark Millar had to say about all of this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m really proud of what the team achieved with \u2018Jupiter\u2019s Legacy\u2019 and the amazing work everyone did on that origin season,\u201d Millar said. \u201cI\u2019ve been asked a lot about what we\u2019re planning next with this world and the answer is to see what the super-villains are getting up to. I\u2019ve always loved crime stories from Scorcese to Tarantino and super-villains are always the most fun part of any superhero story. To do something exclusively focused on the villains they fight just feels incredibly fresh as we explore what it\u2019s like to be a bad guy in a world crawling with good guys who want to put you in jail. \u2018Jupiter\u2019s Legacy\u2019 is a vast and rich space with lots of characters to mine and so I\u2019m happy to share that our next step here is a live-action version of the \u2018Supercrooks\u2019 comic I created with Leinil Francis Yu a few years back. Given where we\u2019re going next, we\u2019ve made the tough call of letting our incredible cast out of their show commitment as we continue to thoughtfully develop all realms of the \u2018Jupiter\u2019s Legacy\u2019 saga. We\u2019re confident we\u2019ll return to it later and just want to say thanks to you guys for your continued support and to the cast and crew who made this look so great.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

In addition to all of this, sounds like Netflix is planning to position SUPERCROOKS as it\u2019s next \u201canthology\u201d show, citing that in addition to the live-action series, is planning an anime series set to launch later this year. Not unlike what they did with ALTERED CARBON, which, Netflix, if you\u2019re listening, would love it to come back for a 3rd<\/sup> season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
