The Spider-Man franchise has definitely been hit-miss since Sony Pictures got the license. Thankfully SPIDER-MAN HOMECOMING was delightful… but even still, wasn’t sure what to make of INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE when trailers first broke. Don’t get me wrong, the trailers looked amazing, but with the franchise’s fractured history under Sony, definitely was a little hesitant to get my hopes up. Now you should probably know going into this that I’m only vaguely familiar with the books, mainly from spotting early Dave McKean cover art on early releases in the book store, and I’ve never read THE DARK TOWER books as a whole… well, with the exception of a couple volumes of the MARVEL adaptations… but Peter David is definitely no Stephen King. I mainly bought and read them for Jae Lee’s art, which was FANTASTIC! But those readings were a faint memory seeing this movie.
But basically I saw this movie with virgin eyes, and I LOVED IT. Continue reading REVIEW: ‘THE DARK TOWER’
I have to say, VALERIAN was a bit of a disappointment. It’s funny, I used to joke that the hallmark of a bad movie was if the only goof thing you’d have to say about it was how good the visual effects were. And that was definitely the case here.

So GHOST IN THE SHELL opens this weekend, and I’ll say right off the jump, I wish I had better things to say about it.
GHOST IN THE SHELL has been one of a handful of movies lately that has been under fire for whitewashing in Hollywood. In this case, Asians. But, me, being an Asian-American and a fan of the source material, I ended up being okay with the casting for reasons I mentioned previously on this site. And I have been really looking forward to this movie, especially considering how much of a fan I am of the creator, Masamune Shirow.
But as for the whitewashing, I’ll get into that later.
As for the movie itself? Well, I can best describe it as, “meh”. Continue reading REVIEW: ‘GHOST IN THE SHELL’
So I might’ve just peed myself a little. I’ve been a huge fan of Luc Besson, ever since THE PROFESSIONAL (or LEON if you prefer). Though LUCY was a little bit of a miss for me, when news of VALERIAN broke, SO EXCITED!!!
I wasn’t able to get into the panel at Comic-Con, so I have definitely been awaiting footage from this movie. And now that it’s here, let me tell you, it doesn’t disappoint!
