I’m sure I’m not the only one, but THE MATRIX RESURRECTIONS was announced, I was SUPER EXCITED, like “mind-blown” kind of excited. But at the same time, definitely discouraged by the Warchowski sibs, well, in this case, one of them (Lana) dipping back into this well. While the original MATRIX trilogy progressed to become another sci-fi/action movie franchise, which, by no means, anything wrong with that. The first movie had such wonderful spiritual, metaphysical ideas associated with it. I was definitely bummed that more and more that they seemed to abandon that route.
So with the announcement of RESURRECTIONS, I just didn’t know what to make of it. Like on one hand, super stoked to dive back into this world, but at the same time, can’t help but wonder if this is just a cash grab. I mean, we really haven’t seen anything successful or exciting from the Warchowskis for some time. So it’s an evitable question. And that’s not to mention any footage I’ve seen to this point hasn’t been terribly exciting. Unlike the time I first saw the first trailer for THE MATRIX.
But seems like that might be changing a little bit with latest TV spot for the movie dubbed, Déjà Vu. Check it out below.
Of course, a movie of this high a profile, nothing is really given away it terms of plot hints. But what I loved about this spot was how they brought back the origins of “Déjà Vu”. And the way the spot was cut together, clips from the original movies juxtaposed against clips from RESURRECTIONS, was just so engaging and arguably, beautiful, I found myself getting a little more excited for this movie, despite any reservations I might’ve had.
I mean, any skepticism I have, I’m gonna be watching this when it hits. But I’m hoping that it’ll take a form that’ll include a lot of the themes I inferred and loved from the first movie.
