Man, the STAR WARS sequel trilogy… definitely a divisive series if installments of the beloved franchise to be sure. But whether or not you loved it or hated it, sounds like Lucasfilm may not be done with those characters. CBR is reporting the characters will live on.
Certainly, those are not characters we’re going to forget…

…They will live on, and those are conversations that are going on with the creative team as well.
Sure it’s a little vague to be sure. A statement saying the characters will live on is by no means stating we’ll see them back on the screen, whether it be in theatres or Disney+, no guarantee. For me, THE LAST JEDI notwithstanding, I really enjoyed the sequel trilogy. Even with all it’s failings, definitely enjoyed the movies. So I would love to see these characters return.
But will it happen? Who knows. As CBR recounts, John Boyega (Finn), did not have great things to say about his experience as a POC on the movies for he and Kelly Marie Tran’s characters. Additionally Oscar Isaac looks to be crazy busy. With DUNE having been released and it’s sequel announced. And that’s not to mention Isaac playing the title character in MOON KNIGHT from Marvel. And you know a commitment with Marvel is long term. Don’t get me wrong, not complaining about that, but when it comes to bringing the cast back together, there might be some issues.
But again, I would love to see these characters return. Definitely feel like there was so much more to explore with the characters. So much they hinted to, but apparently ended up being a marketing tool for other product like comics and books to answer those hints.
I would just love to see a more complete story with these characters. Especially with Rey taking the name of Skywalker. Because, for me, growing up with the original trilogy, the movies have always been about the Skywalker family. Regardless of the spin-off movies, STAR WARS has always been about the “episode” device, and the episodes were always about the Skywalker family.
Basically it would suck if Lucasfilm abandons that main throughline for the franchise. But only time will tell where this all would go.
