Following season 1 of THE MANDALORIAN, season 2 saw a “making of” doc in Disney+’s, DISNEY GALLERY: STAR WARS: THE MANDALORIAN… which is a hella long title… but that’s another story entirely. But one thing that was missing from the look behind the scenes of season 2 was the finale, specifically the reveal of Luke Skywalker’s return. Which was understandable, season 2 of GALLERY was so close to the finale, definitely no spoilers. But now we’re getting a look behind the curtain on that finale with, THE MAKING OF THE SEASON 2 FINALE, which will be part of the GALLERY series.
The special will undoubtedly go into the technology and collaboration with Mark Hamill in bringing Luke back. Especially in a way that made sense, wasn’t cheap, and respectful to the franchise and ultimately the fans. But what will be interesting to see if the special goes into what Luke’s return means for the series.
io9 said it best I think:
But we want to know if Mandalorian producers Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau will go a bit deeper than that. Sure it’s cool to learn about the technology, but what about the reasoning? Of all the Jedi in the galaxy (and now, largely because of their work, we know there were more at that time), why did the one Jedi who already had nine movies about his family have to come back? Was there any thought of how the decision made Star Wars feel smaller? Were any other Jedi considered? And also, what does bringing a CGI Luke back do for future seasons? Are we going to be seeing more of this Luke?
Those last questions will probably not be answered or even entertained. But they’re certainly worth mentioning as key points of this massive decision.

And I have to agree with Germain, as I doubt those questions will be answered, but one is always hopeful.
But THE MAKING OF THE SEASON 2 FINALE in DISNEY GALLERY: STAR WARS: THE MANDALORIAN (I told you, hella long title, haha) hit’s Disney+ on August 25th.
