‘Cowboy Bebop’ is Coming Back!

But don’t get too excited, the anime is not getting a sequel, or another anime movie… though I would LOVE that. But Netflix is adapting the fan-favorite anime into a live-action series for it’s service.

Based on the worldwide phenomenon from Sunrise Inc., Cowboy Bebop is the jazz-inspired, genre-bending story of Spike Spiegel, Jet Black, Faye Valentine and Radical Ed: a rag-tag crew of bounty hunters on the run from their pasts as they hunt down the solar system’s most dangerous criminals. They’ll even save the world…for the right price.

I personally have mixed emotions about this one. Like so many others, I flippin’ LOVED this series. While so many discovered this series on Adult Swim, I became a fan when it hit VHS years before. I mean, from the characters, to the animation, to the story, and of course, THE MUSIC (MAN, I miss me some Yoko Kanno)!

But with the love, again, definitely mixed emotions about a live-action adaptation. Definitely giving Netflix a little leeway, I mean, I love what they did with reimaginings like LOST IN SPACE to name one. And I realize that was a reimagining of a live-action series… but still, they have a great track record with me.

And for those of you about to mention the live-action FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST, and BLEACH, they just have the streaming rights, they didn’t produce.

But one shimmering light of hope on this is that the original anime director, Shinichiro Watanabe, will consult on the series.

No word yet on when this will come out. But I’ll definitely let you know when I hear more.

“See you ‘SOON’ Space Cowboy…”
