On July 27th, through the Star Wars website, Lucasfilm announced that film for the next chapter for Star Wars will begin filming on August 1st at London’s Pinewood Studios.
With it, they made a cast announcement that’s kind of exciting!
As you all know, J.J. Abrams will be returning to direct Episode IX, which is being touted as the final installment of the Skywalker saga. In addition to directing it, Abrams co-wrote the screenplay with Chris Terrio.
Returning cast members include: Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Issac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, and Billie Lourd.
Joining the cast are new characters being played by: Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, and Kerri Russell.
Doesn’t seem any word of yet as to who they will be playing. But I’ll definitely keep you posted.
But the most exciting part of the casting news is that in addition to Anthony Daniels coming back, Mark Hamill will be returning, presumably as a Jedi Ghost, and Billy Dee Williams will be coming back to reprise his role as Lando Calrissian.
Last, but most certainly not least, Carrie Fisher will be returning as Leia Organa. This won’t be done by a double or CGI, Leia will return by utilizing unused footage from THE FORCE AWAKENS.
We desperately loved Carrie Fisher,” says Abrams.
“Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honor Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.”
STAR WARS EPISODE IX opens in December 2019.
