So I’m about to make 2 exes of mine VERY HAPPY… *ahem. MAN, I need to read more! First with READY PLAYER ONE, I was gifted the book, but hadn’t had the chance to read it, now a movie is coming out. And now? Out of nowhere comes a teaser for a movie called, MORTAL ENGINES, adapted from the books by Philip Reeve.
And I have to say, if the teaser is any indication, I could only imagine what world the books paint. BUT check out the teaser below! I’m not going to give you any setup, but it’s pretty exciting…
Thousands of years after civilization was destroyed by a cataclysmic event, humankind has adapted and a new way of living has evolved. Gigantic moving cities now roam the Earth, ruthlessly preying upon smaller traction towns. Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan)—who hails from a Lower Tier of the great traction city of London—finds himself fighting for his own survival after he encounters the dangerous fugitive Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar). Two opposites, whose paths should never have crossed, forge an unlikely alliance that is destined to change the course of the future.
Mortal Engines is the startling, new epic adventure directed by Oscar®-winning visual-effects artist Christian Rivers (King Kong). Joining Rivers are The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogies three-time Academy Award®-winning filmmakers Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, who have penned the screenplay. The Universal and MRC adaptation is from the award-winning book series by Philip Reeve, published in 2001 by Scholastic.
But if you read the above, you read right, Peter Jackson and his LORD OF THE RINGS partners, Fran Walsh & Philippa Boyens, are on board as Producers and Writers for this movie. And I can’t wait. I mean, between the setup of battling cities & steampunk vibe, it seems like this IP was made for the house Weta built.
And like I said, DEFINITELY need to read more. Looks like I’m adding MORTAL ENGINES to the list.
MORTAL ENGINES is set to hit theatres December of 2018.
