Here’s hoping you love THE LAST JEDI, because it sounds like it’s director, Rain Johnson, will be developing a new trilogy of STAR WARS movies! The news was recently confirmed on a conference call in which Disney CEO, Bob Iger, was discussing Disney’s 2017 fiscal year.
As for when this new trilogy takes place, whether it’ll be in the “Episode” films, or part of the expanded universe, is anyone’s guess. My assumption is that it’ll be part of the expanded universe that ROGUE ONE, and the new Han Solo movie falls under, as Lucasfilm president, Kathleen Kennedy had once said that the STAR WARS movies would fall into 2 buckets:
- The “Episode” movies would tell the tale of the Skywalker family.
- The “Expanded Universe” movies would be just that, films expanding on stories from the “Episode” movies.
But one thing we do know for sure is that this trilogy will “introduce new characters from a corner of the galaxy that Star Wars lore has never before explored.”
Kathleen Kennedy had released a statement regarding the announcement
We all loved working with Rian on The Last Jedi. He’s a creative force, and watching him craft The Last Jedi from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career. Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.
And Rain Johnson quickly followed this up with a playful tweet from his Twitter account:
Obviously I hope you like The Last Jedi. But man now I REALLY hope you like The Last Jedi.
