So it’s no secret by now that Japan has a live-action movie of the beloved manga, FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST, coming. And I couldn’t be more excited! Well, maybe a little worried… but definitely more excited than worried! Haha.
Why am I worried? Well, as much as I love genre movies from Japan, they always have like a B-movie quality to them, which is kind of one of the reasons why I LOVE them. But I LOVE FULLMETAL MORE! And I really want this to have a higher production quality to it! But if the trailer is any indication, looks like I’m not gonna have too much reason to worry.
Check it out below.
And if that wasn’t enough for you, here’s a promo pic that’s recently hit the web…
If you’re not familiar with FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST, here’s a quick rundown from it’s Wiki page…
Fullmetal Alchemist (Japanese: 鋼の錬金術師 Hepburn: Hagane no Renkinjutsushi?, lit. “Alchemist of Steel”) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hiromu Arakawa. It was serialized in Square Enix’s Monthly Shōnen Gangan magazine between August 2001 and June 2010; the publisher later collected the individual chapters into twenty-seven tankōbon volumes. The world of Fullmetal Alchemist is styled after the European Industrial Revolution. Set in a fictional universe in which alchemy is one of the most advanced scientific techniques, the story follows two alchemist brothers named Edward and Alphonse Elric, who are searching for the philosopher’s stone to restore their bodies after a failed attempt to bring their mother back to life using alchemy.
Like I said, I’ve loved the manga, it’s anime series, and it’s anime movie incarnations… I really can’t wait for this.
Sounds like this is set to hit Japan theatres this year. But I can’t seem to find any news on a US release, but I’ll keep looking!
In the meantime, if you’ve never experienced FULLMETAL, I’d start with the manga. Like AKIRA, it’ll open up SO MUCH when you watch the anime. Enjoy!
